    The challenges behind the perfect lighting

     Onufri’s “red”

    Natural white light from the sun is a combination of all colors in the visible light spectrum. Every color is equally represented in a beam of natural light, so it renders the colors of objects accurately. For the optimal lighting experience, artificial light has to be as close as possible to the natural one.

    Creating white light in an LED light source happens either by combining red, green, and blue LED in the same light source or by incorporating white phosphors on a blue LED to generate white light, similar to the way fluorescent lights are made.

    The full spectrum of colors is not present in an LED light source. Because some colors are missing, this affects how the LED displays the colors of objects in the space. LEDs are less "accurate" than natural or incandescent light.

    This was the challenge of Studio Luce by Abiesse when projecting the lighting of the Onufri paintings in the National Iconographic Museum in Berat.

    Studio Luce by Abiesse had to deliver a lighting solution that would give the same optical experience of the natural light so that the paintings could come to the public's eye in all their glory, with a special focus on Onufri's unique "red color".

    Of all the colors in the light spectrum, red is the most difficult to light with LED lighting.

     

     

    CRI (Colour Rendering Index), measured on a scale from 1 – 100, indicates how accurately a given light source renders colors in the space it illuminates. Full spectrum light sources like natural light and incandescent (halogen) bulbs have a CRI of 100. (CRI) is a widely used metric to describe color accuracy and fidelity. It is calculated as an average score on 8 color samples with an additional 7 supplementary color.

    Each of these scores is called Ri, where i represents the TCS number. For example, R9 is a commonly referenced deep red color score and is an important indicator of color quality for many applications.

    Studio Luce by Abiesse and Exenia Lighting chose the most advanced Led technology, with lighting solutions with R9 greater than 95, so that the experience we get when visiting the Onufri paintings inside the National Museum of Iconography is impeccable.

    The visitor can get a perfect sense of the painting's colors, combinations and mood. Light shapes everything around us, and Studio Luce by Abiesse takes special care that what we see, what we perceive is perfectly lit, so we as viewers can get the most of every interaction we have.
