Almost 70 kilometers west of London, Reading is a city with a population of more than 300 thousand people, which continues to grow every year. The city's thriving reputation as a business hub has attracted corporations and young entrepreneurs. As a result, housing remains an important issue to address. The abandoned retail park along Weldale Road in central Reading, within walking distance of the train station, received approval for a regeneration that would include the region's new residential complex.
The main vision of the AWW architectural office that designed the new project was to create a new community with expanded green spaces. According to the architects' statement regarding the Foundry Quarter, "integral to the project are open public spaces, private gardens and courtyards, allowing people to sit, relax and socialize with each other."
The main feature of the adjoining building environment is the distinctive red brick. This is fully respected by the new design and is evident throughout the structure of the complex. The apartments are ideal for the new global state of "work from home", as the buildings offer modern reception and recreation facilities.
The project used two advanced aluminum systems, in order for the buildings to increase the high performance required in all areas. Thus, thermal insulation, sound reduction and safety remain at exceptional levels, facilitating the conditions of daily life.
The Foundry neighborhood offers the town of Reading a modern residential option. Young businessmen, digital nomads and entrepreneurs can live and work there, in a calm, safe and creative way.
