Thurje Handmade [alb. thurje (ˈθurːĩɛ) – en. weaving] is a brand of handicraft products which revivals handcrafts, offering a collection of renovated handmade weaved products. The innovation of Thurje Handmade stands on the networking of skilled Albanian artisans and the new generation of designers, introducing a renewed vision for made-in-Albania products.
Handcrafts have been a very important part of the lifestyle of Albanians, especially women. Girls would master the traditional techniques as soon as they turned 10 years old. Crocheting, embroidering and hand-looming were common skills for girls and women, but there was always competition on who would do the most beautiful and the most detailed work for their own dowry.
The culture of handicrafts has almost disappeared with the modernization of our lifestyle, but Thurje Handmade rediscovers traditional ways of doing, conserving the same quality and offering refreshed products, designed to fit into the most curated and sophisticated contemporary interiors.
Big shapes, calm colors, or interesting contrasts, Bllok Collection rugs are easily inserted into your interiors, melting naturally into them.
Hare collection is the embodiment of joy. Warm colors playfully fuse to brighten and color your living places. Both regular and spontaneous, both mature and playful, these rugs are designed to become protagonists and gathering spot in your home.
Our Lin collection finds beauty in raw materials through minimalist design. The simplicity and monochromatic products have a bold pattern deriving from the material qualities and the weaving technique itself.
‘The object themselves, however, should not be a simple repetition of what has been done in the past. Recent lifestyles have changed and require new objects for everyday use. As long as the aim of folk art is the creation of utilitarian objects, it must meet the needs of the new age.’
