Driven by great curiosity and putting aside feelings of guilt, Ephraim pulled out his pocket knife and opened a small piece of the bed piece. He was stunned and amazed by what he saw: the bed was built of elastic metal springs. Carefully, he sewed the piece back, but took with him what he had discovered.

The memory of an elastic bed and incomparable sleep could not be left in oblivion. Upon his return to Sweden, Ephraim began to deal less with his trading business and more with experimenting with metal systems of various shapes.
