The Challenge
Designing a multi-storey office building, in an overcrowded and sought-after area in Bucharest, was a difficult challenge. The complexity of the underground networks and the proximity to a gas station added a higher level of difficulty in relation to the end result.
The Solution
The architectural office PZP Architectura designed a tower that stands out with its modern, wavy façade. However, the plot that was chosen confused the situation, due to its limited size in a crowded area.
Outside, the tower adapts to the aesthetics of its urban environment, while bringing a strong sense of contemporary, fast-paced city life. It is worth noting that the building forms a pit in the center of the building, so if one looks at it from a distance, it appears to be divided into two identical towers.
Large window frames are supported by an innovative facade system, which combined with thermally insulated aluminum systems, bring a special character and high energy performance to the building. Moreover, the design of the raised ground floor is based on the element of transparency. Thus, the wide glass surfaces contribute to the smooth incorporation of the building into the external environment, providing large spaces for shops.
The Olympia Tower meets all the needs of an office building of our time and constitutes a unique design proposal, in an area filled with older apartment blocks. The addition of the spectacular tower opens up new avenues for the future and at the same time becomes a “bridge” connecting the building with the city's urban past.
