CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC G.VERDI IN MILAN
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Area : 19.213 m²
Budget: 46.240.000,00 €
The new Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory Campus aims to revitalize and enhance an urban area facing numerous social and environmental challenges. Located in Rogoredo, the Campus will contribute significantly to the regeneration of the nearby Santa Giulia district. The development will create a new urban hub in Milan, attracting students, teachers, artists, and citizens through the integration of new functions, services, and collective spaces, including an auditorium, restaurant/bar, music schools, students residence and urban squares within the park.
CONCEPT
The design of the new Conservatory draws inspiration from the organic forms found in nature, particularly the forest, which is already present in the project area and the surrounding peripheral context. The fluid, organic shapes of the buildings are inspired by the various organic shapes of the leaves, creating an ecosystem which produces natural, primordial sounds. Historically, music was conceived as an emulation of the sounds of nature, used in propitiatory ceremonies and celebrations of natural events.
To ensure permeability and accessibility, the project splits its functions into different buildings.
The intervention includes:
- Auditorium: comprising the main concert hall and its auxiliary spaces.
- Multifunctional building: Housing music and general classrooms, offices, a concert hall, restaurants, and versatile spaces.
- School of Jazz, Rock and Pop Music: Involving the adaptive reuse of the Ex Chimici building, with its facade serving as the backdrop for an outdoor concert space.
- Student residence
Additionally, the project includes underground parking for cars, bicycles, and motorcycles, and the installation of charging stations for electric vehicles, promoting green mobility. A system of green roofs will enhance biodiversity, which is further reflected in the park design surrounding the buildings.
