The Renovation of Primary and Secondary School “Andrea Bacci”

The School Complex is located in the south-east of the historic center of Sant E'lpidio a Mare. The relation site-to-context has created a conceptual approach as a starting point for the project proposal.

The volumetric composition is divided into three main modules that are a whole of the two linear volumes that follow the outlines of the site and terrain. It represents today’s contemporary architecture buildings with identifiable elements of the philosophical concept. It’s characteristic play of volumes that are risen above the ground, and the colonnaded porch articulation, create the sense of free movement and perceiving spaces as both external and internal. The use of the two environments will support the children’s scholarly activities, will increase the enthusiasm for learning and will provide exposure to a real - world context through experiences and inclusive relationships within one another. The spatial planning of the floor plans consists on a rhythmical separation of the classrooms and undulating forms of the hallways that create possibilities for more organic - shaped spaces for the use of social shared purposes. The school complex represents a lively eco - mechanism of greenery integrated within roofs, hallways, loggias, and gardens that continuate the natural flow of the landscape context. These features altogether with innovative technical solutions for the building will reduce the negative impact to the surrounding environment and its users.

The urban green spaces all around the complex harmonize the relations between what is the built and the natural environment. The whole building gradually increases its height towards the historical part of the town, while expanding to the downhill on the eastern side of existing landscape features.
